Dr. Rachelle Sheely and Dr. Steven Gutstein from USA and Mrs. Kamini Lakhani from India will train autistic individual’s parents and professionals.
DELHI, India – December 12, 2015 – SAI Connections, an autism treatment centre based in Mumbai, will conduct 2 days Seminar in Delhi to find the missing pieces of autism. The event will be held at Siri fort on December 12 and 13, 2015.
Today, Mrs. Kamini Lakhani, the founder and Autism spectrum disorder trainer SAI Connections detailed on the proceedings for the two days where the concerns of the autistic child’s parents will be addressed. The seminar will empower the parents to understand their child better and become experts in their child’s life.Parents and professionals in this field will get to interact with consultants who have spent over 20 years studying autism.
ASD is a brain disorder that limits a person’s ability to communicate and relate to other people. The limitations are visible in social interactions, verbal and non-verbal communication and intrinsic motivation. Restricted and repetitive behavior is part of the behavior of an individual on autism spectrum. PDD-NOS and Asperger’s Syndrome are classified under ASD. While some characteristics may be milder, others could be more severe.
“The number of children being diagnosed with autism is increasing at a rapid pace. In last 15 years, it has increased almost 120 percent globally. The percentage of autistic individuals is very low and has no economic barriers. Awareness about autism in India is improving but is still is dismally low. Autism is considered a liability, thus, there are various aspects that need attention from therapists and parents” said Mrs. Kamini Lakhani.
Dr. Rachelle Sheely said, “We not only invite autistic child’s parents but we also invite their teachers and principals. School educators must understand that these students need more attention and should work towards providing it effectively. There are many misconceptions about the condition like the children are not intelligent, or are aggressive or are unable to carry out daily tasks. Right training for interacting with autistic children has to be imparted to parents, educators and professionals.”
Dr. Steven Gutstein opined, “Some under qualified practitioners offer assurance that autism can be ‘cured’ through therapies. Parents spend lots of money to get it cured but it often end up in worsening the child’s condition. Parents need to be sensitized about the needs of autistic individuals. They should approach right person in right time to address their child’s condition”. Adding further he said,”Parents should address the cause in the formative years of a child’s abilities. Also, they should look for reasons for a child’s behavior rather than simply ignoring this crucial aspect. We need more therapiesand trainers in India which are child- and-family-centric.”
These 2-day workshops are aimed at addressing these concerns of parents. Parents and professionals will interact with consultants who have spent over 20 years studying autism. They will get answers to pressing questions specific to their challenges not only from the speakers but also from fellow parents of children and young adults on the autism spectrum. Parents and professionals will be empowered to a child better and vice versa. They also will get updated on the latest provenly effective practices from around the world. This workshop will spread awareness about autism and other learning disabilities, along with enabling parents and professionals to find the missing pieces of the autism puzzle.
